Founded in 1978, the Pike Market Senior Center is a safe, welcoming community to approximately 1,000 low income, predominantly homeless seniors seeking permanent housing, work, friends and a new life. Our ethnically diverse members typically lack families, are isolated, and experiencing substance abuse. Almost 35% of our members live at Seattle's downtown emergency shelters, and many others are frail, isolated seniors who live at the Pike Market's low-income apartment buildings. Approximately 44% report physical disabilities or other poor health. A hot, home-cooked meal, a chance to shoot pool or take an exercise class with friends, and coordinated advocacy and support services helps our members build more financially secure, socially
active lives.

The Mission of the Pike Market Senior Center/Downtown Food Bank is to serve the basic needs of the low-income population in the Pike Place Market and downtown neighborhood. The Pike Market Senior Center provides services to address the needs of older, low-income people that are the result of physical disability, social isolation, inadequate nutrition, and the lack of opportunity to engage in meaningful activity or to learn new skills.

The Downtown Food Bank provides services to low-income and homeless people of all ages to address the problems that result from inadequate nutrition and isolation in those communities. In providing these services, we do not discriminate on the basis of color, creed, religion, gender, age, national origin, marital status, sensory or physical or mental handicap, political ideology or sexual orientation.
