WHAT IS THE GREAT FIGGY PUDDING?

This popular destination event is a fund-raiser for the Pike Market Senior Center and its Downtown Food Bank. Proceeds from The Great Figgy Pudding support this 30 year old organization in its mission to improve the lives and meet the needs of the seniors and hungry people living in downtown Seattle. The goal this year is to raise $100,000.

The Great Figgy Pudding Street Corner Caroling Competition is one of the most looked-forward-to holiday events in Seattle, attracting a crowd of over 7,000 every year. 40+ caroling teams participate in the competition located in and near Westlake Center in downtown Seattle, culminating in the Main Stage event where the caroling winners are announced. Caroling teams raise money by soliciting donations from friends, co-workers and family prior to the event. Prizes are awarded for collecting the most donations, the best choral performance and the most original performance.

DO I HAVE TO SING WELL IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE? Nope! All you have to do to participate is sing – you can be a beginner or an opera singer, it is only important to have fun and raise money.

HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE? Recruit five or more carolers to form your team, designate a Team Captain, fill out an application and send in your registration fee to: Pike Market Senior Center, 85 Pike Street (Suite 200), Seattle WA 98101. The registration fee before October 31^st is $45 after this date the fee is $65 Make checks payable to Pike Market Senior Center. Once your registration fee is received an information packet will be mailed to you with more details.

HOW DO I RAISE MONEY?

Simply ask your friends, family, coworkers and community to donate to your caroling team. We will supply you with Figgy fundraising tips and donation forms. Don’t forget Corporate Matches!

HOW DOES THE CAROLING COMPETITION WORK?

1. Sign up and pay your registration fee.

2. Ask friends, family, businesses and coworkers for donations.

3. Practice your carols.

4. On December 5th, bring your donations to the registration table at the Westlake, go to your designated caroling spot and sing your heart out! If your team is eligible for the judged awards, the Figgy Judges will visit you sometime between 6:15 and 7:15. Awards will be given out from 7:30-8:30 at the Westlake Center main stage.

FIGGY AWARDS

WHAT ARE THE AWARDS?

There are three ways to win awards.

TEAM AWARDS.

· Figlanthropy Awards

Awards are given to the three teams who raise the most money. The top

team is invited to sing on stage.

· People’s Choice Award

Spectators vote for their favorite team. Ballots are available at registration table. Top two teams compete on Main stage for a sing off

If your team raises more than $750 you are eligible to be judged for the following categories:

· Most Creative Performance

· Best Choral Performance

The top two teams from both the Most Creative Performance and the Best Choral Performance will perform on the Main Stage for a sing off.

GET FIGGY WITH IT. A prize is given to the team that collects the most money in its team box during the competition.

LONE FIGGY. In appreciation for your Figgy support, fleece winter wear will be awarded to Individuals who raise $250+. When possible, incentive prizes are also awarded to Individuals who raise $750+.

FIGGY FUNDRAISING

WHAT ARE WE RAISING FUNDS FOR AGAIN?

Founded in 1978, the Pike Market Senior Center and its Downtown Food Bank provides a gathering place, meals, employment services, case management, wellness programming and meaningful activities to low-income and homeless Seattle seniors. Our goal this year is to raise $100,000.

The Pike Market Senior Center and Downtown Food Bank offer support services to Seattle’s low and no income populations, who are at least 55 years of age, and offer food to persons of all ages in need.

The senior center welcomes over 150 individuals daily, and invites them to participate in a social network of services to their mind, body and spirits. We offer nutritional support through nutritionally balanced daily meals, social services and wellness activities, while engaging our members within the senior center setting and with and greater Seattle community.

The food bank operates with one paid employee and many dedicated volunteers. In 2007 the food bank customers received over 37,000 bags of groceries. The food bank also delivers groceries to over 250 homebound downtown residents weekly.

Through your support of Figgy Pudding, you can help enlarge the capacity of both the senior center and food bank to offer these life-sustaining services.
